Church Interested in Purchasing Taylor Elementary School
The Community Baptist Church of Huron Township has shown interest in buying the building and property at William C. Taylor Elementary School.
William C. Taylor Elementary School might be off the demolition list and sold to the Community Baptist Church of Huron Township for $250,000.
A letter of intent to purchase the property was sent to Trenton Public School administration and members of the Trenton Board of Education voted unanimously to allow Interim Superintendent Larry Leapley to sign the letter at Monday's board of educaton meeting.
Though the sale is not final, the school would become a church if the sale goes through.
Church administrators now have a 90-day Due-Diligence period to examine the property and determine the required costs to improve and modify the property as needed and the feasibility of utilizing the property as intended according to Leapley.
Board member Wayne Sieloff recommended removing any plaques or signs related to Trenton Public Schools and donating them to the Trenton Historical Society should the sale become final.
Conditions for the sale are the property cannot be used for a K-12 school and the district reserves the right to refuse the sale before the deal is made.
A professional service fee of ten percent of the sale price would be paid to Real Estate Unlimited Inc. Each party would pay 5 percent to cover the fee.
Board member Mike Hawkins thanked Leaply and his staff for working on the potential sale.
"People in that area, in that subdivision, will appreciate it," Hawkins said. "Even though it won't be a school...at least there is going to be something there and it's not going to be a building that's going to be an eyesore."
