Former Parks and Rec Head Receives Golden Apple Award
The Trenton Public Schools Golden Apple Award went to former Director of Parks and Recreation Patrick Hawkins.
Former Director of Trenton Parks and Recreation Patrick Hawkins received the Golden Apple Award Monday at the regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting.
Trenton Public Schools presented the award to Hawkins for his service as a previous member of the Board of Education and for volunteering over 21 years of his life to the Trenton football team.
Hawkins was the voice of the Trenton varsity and junior varsity football games. He announced each home game.
Presenting the award was Hawkin's son new Board President Mike Hawkins.
"Pat Hawkins has been a valuable person to the Trenton Public Schools," interim Superintendent Larry Leapley said. "His service on the School Board was outstanding and he was always willing to help the school district anyway he could."
Hawkins was never paid for announcing the football games in all 21 years. He recently retired from his position as director of Parks and Recreation and as the voice of the football team in November 2011.
