Fatal Crash Causes Trenton Business Owner's Building to be Demolished

Tim and Jan Debacker own Debacker Lawn Care in Trenton and a recent fatal crash left them with a soon-to-be demolished building.

A local business owner said a fatal car crash that took place early Wednesday morning would lead to the demolition of a large building on his property on Fort Street. "I woke up to the bang," Trenton business owner Tim Debacker said. A 50-year-old Taylor man died after he attempted to elude police and crashed his car into one of Debacker's buildings at a high rate of speed. Tim and Jan Debacker have owned Debacker Lawn Care for nearly 25 years and have operated out of their current location, 2501 Fort Street, for 17 years. The two said the building has been hit before. In 2009, a drunken driver crashed into the building causing slightly less damage. There was no structure damage found at that time. After Wednesday's crash, Debacker said a …

City Hall Sam's Club Sign Up Offers Free $10 Gift Card

Residents who sign up for a Sam's Club membership at Trenton City Hall receive a $10 gift card.

Employees of Sam's Club have set up shop in a conference room on the first floor of Trenton City Hall to encourage residents to sign up for memberships. Lorene Rome and Dolores Palacio said they are signing residents up for memberships from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. "Anyone in the city of Trenton that comes in today (and tomorrow) gets a $10 gift card when they sign up," Rome said.

Patch Coney Tour Offers Tasty Bites of History

Authors Joe Grimm and Katherine Yung guided a bus tour Saturday across Metro Detroit, visiting Coney Island restaurants in conjunction with their new book 'Coney Detroit.'

A steady diet of hot dogs and history was served up Saturday afternoon as a group of about a dozen people embarked on the first Patch Coney Detroit Bus Tour. Tour participants had a chance to travel across Metropolitan Detroit tasting coney dogs and learning how the region has become the world’s coney capital. Led by Joe Grimm and Katherine Yung, authors of the book Coney Detroit, the tour bus left from downtown Detroit and along the way stopped at Joe’s Top Dog Coney Island in Dearborn, Athens Coney Island in Royal Oak and Western Coney Island in Eastpointe. At each spot, members of the tour received samples of coney dogs and had a chance to hear from each of the establishment’s owners about the history of their businesses. Appropriately…
