The Trenton High School baseball team received new batting cages.
The view of Trenton High School from West Road changed recently after volunteers built a large series of batting cages for the school's baseball and softball teams. The two 70-foot netted cages lined up end-to-end are located on the high school's campus near the varsity baseball field. In the cages, two players can hit against a live pitcher, while several others can hit off a tee or by soft toss. Head Coach Todd Szalka said the cages will eventually be sectioned off for even more live pitching availability. The team is waiting on a few additional pieces to complete the build. The surface beneath the cages is currently dirt, but will be cemented and covered with artificial turf in the near future. Szalka said his practices are going to be …

The Trenton High School girls soccer team raised money for the Susan G. Komen foundation and the Karmanos Cancer Institute.
The Trenton High School girls soccer team raised big bucks for the Susan G. Komen foundation and the Karmanos Cancer Institute last month. The team presented Maggie Walsh, district coordinator for Karmanos, with an oversize check for $1,500 on May 4. The fundraiser took place during a home game on April 18 against Carlson High School. Players raised money by selling t-shirts, raffling off gift baskets donated by parents and a 50/50 raffle. The field was decorated with over 50 posters of players' friends and family members affected by cancer.

After a tough double-overtime 4-2 loss to Woodhaven the Trenton High School girls soccer team was featured on "STATE CHAMPS!." The teams went back and fourth in several shootouts after regulation, until Woodhaven finally came out on top. "STATE CHAMPS!" is a sports television talk show features video clips and commentary of recent high school sporting events. The Trojanettes were tied for second place in the Downriver League before the start of the game.

In a whirlwind of recent Trenton High School athletes signing with colleges across Michigan, most of the students we've covered are boys. We want to change that. Trenton High School girls basketball star Lauren Featherston recently signed with Oakland Community College to play basketball in the fall. Featherston, a senior, was named to the All-Downriver basketball team this season.

Some graduating seniors of the Trenton High School football team have been hard at work in the offseason, trying to decide on a college. The final decisions are in and, so far, six Trojans will be playing football at colleges across Michigan. The list so far: Each college is represented with a flag in the respective college's major color on the above map. Trenton High School's flag can be found on the map in gold.

The Trenton Fire Department is set to host the 13th annual Police and Fire Charity Hockey Tournament April 25 and 26 at the Kennedy Recreation Center. The idea for Victory Day came to Trenton teacher Aaron Segedi after watching the ESPN channel, and since its inception Victory Day has grown exponentially almost entirely by word of mouth--alone. Those days are long gone. Victory Day is taking its message to the Internet with a new website designed to promote and inform people about the big day. The website, www.victorydayfootball.com, allows Victory Day fans an opportunity to look at photos of past games, get information on sponsorships, read articles written about Victory Day, learn the history of the big day and contact organizers.
